The Crested Butte South Metropolitan District (CB South Metro/District) and Gunnison County share responsibility of snow removal on the roads within the District.
-
Gunnison County handles snow removal on the lower roads, generally from Goren Street down.
-
CB South Metro District manages snow removal on the upper roads, from approximately Blackstock Drive and above.
Snow Plowing Schedule
-
Threshold for Plowing: CB South Metro will plow when snowfall reaches 4 inches or more by 5:30 a.m. Snow accumulation can be viewed on the District's Plow Cam.
-
Deployment Timing: Equipment is typically deployed by 6:00 a.m., though the schedule may be adjusted based on storm conditions, staffing, and other factors.
-
Ice & Traction: The District does not use de-icing chemicals; Instead, sanding is applied as needed based on road conditions to improve traction on the roads.
Driveways and Parking Areas
-
Snow Removal from Driveways and Walkways: The District is not responsible for clearing snow, berms, windrows or ice from driveways or walkways—this remains the responsibility of property owners. When plowing is required, snow piles (berms and windrows) are created across driveways and parking areas. Removal of this snow in driveways and parking areas is the responsibility of the property owner. While crews make every effort to minimize this issue, we ask for your patience and understanding during snow removal operations, as some inconvenience is inevitable during the winter months.
-
Snow From Private Property: If snow from private property is placed in the road, it will be plowed back to the side of the road to eliminate safety hazards. This may inadvertently result in a windrow across your or your neighbor’s driveway.
Property Owner Responsibilities
-
Snow Disposal: Homeowners and residents are responsible for maintaining their own driveways and parking areas. All snow that is on your property must be disposed of on that property. This also includes snow, berms, windrows and ice that has been plowed by CB South Metro and Gunnison County.
-
Parking: Parking is strictly prohibited on any roads within the District. Vehicles should be parked in designated areas. Additionally, the District is not liable for any damage to personal items located in the road or road easement during snow removal operations.
The District’s snow removal fleet consists of:
-
1 Motor Grader
-
1 Loader
-
1 Backhoe
-
1 Tracked Skid Steer
-
1 Plow Truck with Sanding Attachment
